Azeez Lukuman Adesina

azeez_profile_picDr. Azeez, Adesina Lukuman is from Nigeria currently working as Lectrer at the University of Ilorin, Ilorin, Nigeria. Besides a PhD in Communications Studies from the University of Leeds, United Kingdom, Dr Azeez holds a National Certificate in Education from the Oyo State College of Education, Ilesha. In 1988, he undertook the Oyo State voluntary service by teaching at Ansar Ud Deen Comprehensive High School in Ilero, a town of about 30kilometers from Ayetoro-Okeho. After the service, he also taught at Iwajowa High School in Ijio for three years. In 1992, enrolled in the University of Lagos, Lagos, Nigeria to study Mass Communication. Because of the incessant political crises and strikes in Nigerian universities at the early period of the time he started his university education, Azeez spent up to six years at the University of Lagos, thereby graduating in 1997 with the best results in his faculty and with eight prize awards in various courses in Journalism and Mass Communication.  He undertook National Service at the Bauchi Radio Corporation in Bauchi State of Nigeria between November 1997 and December 1998. Immediately after the National Service, he began a Masters programme in International Law and Diplomacy at the University of Lagos. He completed the programme in November 2000 with a prize award as the best student in International Law and with an excellent thesis on the problem of the enforcement and repression of the breach of the laws of war.  He obtained a second Masters degree in Mass Communication at the University of Lagos in 2002, and proceeded to the University of Leeds in the UK in December 2002 for his PhD.  Azeez successfully completed his PhD studies at the University of Leeds, UK in August 2008 with a thesis on the representations of women in Nigerian films.

His research and teaching interests are: Mass Media Theories, Communication Research, Representations of Social Groups in the Media, and Reflection of Social Power in Media Representations, Audience Studies, Politics of the Press and Newsroom Culture and the Emerging Film Industry in Nigeria.

Azeez is married to Oluwayemisi Omowumi.
